  • Albert Barnett was working as a bottler at the Great Northern brewery in Khyber Pass Road, Auckland, when he enlisted in early 1915 at the age of 22. He saw service in Egypt, including at Suez, then France where he was wounded at Flers on 1 October 1916.

    Albert spent much of the next year in and out of hospital before finally being classified unfit in November 1917 and embarking for home in early 1918.

    He married Amy Hansen (nee Garner) in 1919. AWMM
