    MR. ROBERT VICTOR RIRRELL
Sincere regret will. be felt at the death, in Cook Hospital yesterday morning, of Mr. Robert Victor Birred, eldest’ son of Mrs. BIRRELL, of Epsom, Auckland, and tho late Mr. R. M. BIRRELL, formerly of Gisborne. Mr. Birrell had a splendid record of war service, but this took heavy toll of his health and was largely the cause of his passing at the age of 39 years. Mr. Birrell left New Zealand with the 3rd Reinforcements arid served with the New Zealand Field Artillery throughout the Gallipoli campaign and operations in France. After the Armistice he married in England and on returning to the Dominion, he went back on the land, taking up a soldiers’ section. His health, however, broke down and he had to give up the farming life. On Friday an operation became necessary and, from this he failed to rally. Mr. Birrell was born and educated in Gisborne.
The deepest sympathy from a wide circle of friends will be extended to the widow, the family of six young children and Mrs. R. M. Birrell in their sad loss. Tlhe funeral will leave Haisman’s private mortuary. Wi Pere Street, at 2.30 to-morrow (Wednesday) for Taruheru cemetery. Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 29 March 2024 - OBITUARY
