  • Son of Martha Broad and Alfred Carter Broad. Husband of Gladys Tui Broad (nee Green).

    His son writes that his father "wrote a remarkable war diary throughout his time at Gallipoli and the Western Front. This is typed in a large bound volume, entitled “Diary – Gunner L.F.Broad” and is held at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum, Dunedin.

    During WW2 he served in a volunteer unit during the 2nd World War, but it was not the Home Guard, he was in the National Reserve Battalion from 1940-41, seemingly a volunteer unit for older but fit personnel, and his Army No was 3/18/565. I have not found much information at all about this unit."

    Promoted to Bombardier in 10 December 1916, then reverted to Gunner at own request 7 March 1917. Source: Military Personnel File. AWMM
