  • Dr Buchanan, MB ChB Edin (1911), OBE (1919) was Auckland Mental Hospital Medical Superintendent from 1929 until his retirement in 1952.

    He graduated from University of Edinburgh as a doctor on 25 May 1911, and emigrated to NZ leaving London on 25 April 1913 on the "Corinthia". His address prior to leaving for WW1 was The Mental Hospital, Seacliff, Otago where he was a psychiatrist.

    Henry married Louie Alexa McNei in 4 February 1920. She died on 9 May 1942.

    His second wife Margaret Inman came out from UK in 1941 as the first Occupational Therapist in the country. He married her in early 1950s. Born in Dunham on 31 Dec 1911, she died on 8 May 2002.

    Dr Buchanan had no children (The above biographical detail was provided by a Public source, 11/07/15).
