  • [William] John Bush[e] was a founding student at Dilworth School, where he lived 1906- 1912.
It appears that he tried to enlist under his own name and failed - whereupon, according to family anecdote - he tried a different recruiting station and enlisted under the name we see here, this time successfully.
Apparently all he would say of the Great War was, in relation to the evacuation from Gallipoli at Suvla Bay, 'the government had to write a lot of letters [home to bereaved family] that day.
Having survived the Great War, he returned to Ulster where he served in the Home Guard during WW2.
