    Embarked Port Said for France, 13 April 1916; transferred to NZ Pioneer Bn, 30 June 1916.
    Wounded in action, 21 September 1916 (gun shot wound, elbow), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, and thence to Ambulance Train No 20; admitted to 9th General Hospital, Rouen, 23 September 1916; transferred to England, 24 September 1916, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham, 25 September 1916. Transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 26 October 1916; attached to NZ Reserve Group, Sling Camp, 4 December 1916; rejoined unit, in the field, France, 16 January 1917.
    Transferred to 1st Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 7 September 1917.
    Wounded in action, 12 October 1917 (gun shot wound, left thigh, abdomen), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred same day to No 3 Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to No 14 General Hospital, Wimereux, 13 October 1917; to England, 14 October 1917, and admitted same day to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames; transferred to War Hospital, Epsom, 16 October 1917; to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 8 January 1918; to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 29 January 1918; to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 4 February 1918 (hyperchlorhydia).
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Southampton, 31 July 1918, for transfer to 'Marama' at Marseilles; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of illness contracted on Active Service: mitral rresysbolic), 9 December 1918.
