Air Force Cross (AFC) (2 November 1918): From May 1917 to Oct 1918 Lt. Noble-Campbell served with 12 and 53 (Reserve) and 36 and 38/90 Sqds were engaged in the "Home Defence" of England against Zeppelins and Gotha aircraft. At 0015 hrs on 13 Apr 1918, while engaged in an attack on Zeppelin L62, Lt Noble-Campbell was wounded in action and his aircraft shot down, crash landing near Coventry. While the award of his AFC may have reflected his part in the attack on L62 it is more likely to have been for the development of tactics and the training of squadron pilots in night fighting attacks on enemy aircraft.
