    Served in South Africa for 1 year 204 days

    Employed as a civilian employed as the Postmaster at Trentham Camp

    Invalided home and discharged to recuperate. Suggested he may recover for active service and that a month on a farm would be beneficial. Advertised for a home on a farm and he was offered lodging, with no wage, by a Mr O. Cresswell, Rosebank, Pukekohe which he accepted.

    In the meantime he was also offered a probation appointment as Lieutenant with the Corps of New Zealand Engineers, New Zealand Post and Telegraph Corps February 1917; this was declined as his health was still "fair".

    He served in WW1 1 year and 148 days

    Name mis-spelled on the WW1 Nominal Roll as Mansen
