London Gazette 11 February 1919, p2144, Rec No 2507 For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Havrincourt Wood on 12th September 1918. When Rifleman Donn's section was held up by machine gun fire, he worked to the flank; rushed the post single-handed, putting the gun out of action, and killing two of the crew besides wounding the third. He then jumped into the trench and assisted in cleaning up the crew of a second machine gun which had been approached from the other flank. He showed great determination and a ready grasp of the position, and it was due to his splendid work that many casualties were avoided. AWMM
