  • Obituary
Advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs David Douglas, of Calthame, Maimata, of the death of their son, Rifleman Robert Douglas, at a military hospital in England on June 16, 1917. Rifleman Douglas was 23 years of age, and joined the 22nd Reinforcements. He was born in the Waimata, and received his primary education at Mangapapa school. After spending two years at the Gisborne High School, he took up sheep-farming as an occupation. A recent letter from him from Sling camp dated May 6, stated that he was then in good health, and the intimation of his death was a great and painful surprise to his parents.
