    • William Duff was the son of James and Christina Duff, of 434 Princes St., Dunedin, New Zealand. Native of Waikouaiti. Also served in Egypt and Gallipoli. AWMM
    • William (12/1616) enlisted with the 1st Battalion Auckland Infantry Regiment on 14 December 1914 because he was working at Frankton, South Auckland at the time as an engine driver for NZ Railways. He was engaged at Gallipoli/Dardanelles where he was wounded in the back and admitted to the Military Hospital, Hampstead, England on 30 August 1915 where he stayed there until 12 October 1915. He returned to active service on 11 January 1916 and rejoined the Auckland Infantry Battalion at Moascar Camp in Egypt on 23 January 1916. On 23July 1916 he was promoted to Lance-Corporal. It was however relinquished on 19 August 1916 for unknown reasons.

      On the 28 September 1916 he was reported as being wounded while engaged in fighting in France however this later changed to killed in action. His medals were presented to his father Mr James Coupar Duff of Dunedin. Public - Matthew - Other relative - 22 March 2016 - Military Personnel File
