  • He was the only child of Roderick Simon & Margaret Emma FINLAYSON (nee Lewis). They originally lived in Waipu and then in 1902 purchased a farm in Maungaturoto.

    After the War, Donald married Alice Vera MacLEAN. They continued farming on the family farm in Maungaturoto. They had 3 children Joy, Graham & Lewis.

    He was Chairman of the Maungaturoto Dairy Board and the NZ Research Institute. He was also involved with the NZ Dairy Board. In 1965, he received an OBE for his service to the dairy industry.

    On the 75th Anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli, he was presented to the Princess Royal at the Memorial Services in Wellington. Public - Sandra - Researcher - 30 November 2018 - 'The Lewis Legacy' by Patricia Lewis and Marcella Pearson.

    FINLAYSON, Donald Alexander. At Auckland, on Wednesday, May 22, 1991; in his 97th year. Dearly beloved husband of Alice Vera May (Lochalsh, Maungaturoto), and beloved father and father-in-law of Joy and the late Hector Cullen (Maungaturoto) and Graham & Kathleen Finlayson (Maungaturoto) and the late Lewis, loved grandfather Mervyn and Elizabeth, Michael and Janne, Graham & Trish, Frank & Bernadette, Ray and Jan, Christine and Peter, Carran and Dianne, Patricia, Gael and Graham, Margaret and Rodger and loved great-grandfather of his 28 great-grandchildren. Rest in peace. His funeral service will be held at Waipu Presbyterian Church, at 2pm, tomorrow (Friday) May 24, followed by a burial at Waipu Cemetery. All communications to G. M.
