  • He was known as Tote and was the son of Norman & Annie FINLAYSON (nee McInnes). Four brothers enlisted and served overseas during WW1 – Jack (16392), Bain (13/2432), Tote (13/2435) and Stuart (79809). They were a very well-known rugby family. Five brothers represented provincial provinces and one an ‘All Black’.

    In 1926, he married Alexandrina Jane ‘Reene’ McKAY (daughter of James Angus Sutherland & Sarah Margaret McKAY, nee Finlayson). After their marriage, they lived at Omauri for ten years and then moved to Purua. They had three daughters – Margaret Anne, Owen Jean and Shonagh Mary.
