  • Great Uncle Harry, I never met you. In fact, I've only just discovered your existence as I have been researching my family history. Your brother Eric Arnold (my maternal grandfather) went on to have three children, naming his second son after you. That son, Harry Coleridge Arnold, went on to become an Anglican Minister, who christened me in 1968, some time before his death from cancer. It appears that you got to Gallipoli on 26 April 1915, and were killed two days later at Walkers Ridge. You joined up to serve long before conscription became compulsory, and you were 29 or 30 when you died. You listed your next of kin as "Mrs T Arnold". This was not your mother, so it would seem you had a wife, and perhaps children, when you went to fight. My tribute lies in discovering you existed, and in sharing your story. Thank you, Harry, for the sacrifice you made for the "Mother Country"
    Public - Erin - 25 April 2017
