Married Annie Smart and had 3 children - Alma, Audrey and Maxwell. Farmed on "Haupapanui" at Kenena, Mangonui as well as forestry at Kohumaru and Wainui Junction. Moved to Kaitaia became General Manager of the Kaitaia Timber Co. The war was never discussed with family. He lived a happy and productive life until his death in a Forestry accident in 1948.
