    Sergeant George Eckford, In yesterday's casualty list appeared the name of Sergeant George Eckford, who has been killed in action. Sergeant Eckford resigned from the Police Force to go to the war. For four years he was 'stationed in Oamaru, and while here earned a wide popularity. His parents reside in Edinburgh. The deceased has a brother in Tokomaru Bay. Previous to joining the Police Force, the deceased sergeant worked with his brother, who is a grocer.
