  • Berty Elliott was the son of Mr and Mrs A. C. Elliott, Wellington, New Zealand; husband of Mrs Ada A. Elliott, Timaru, New Zealand. Daughter Zona

    Marched into Trentham Military Camp on 13 February 1917, training with 25th Reinforcements

    22 March 1917 he transferred to the NZ Engineers with the rank of Sapper

    6 June 1917 he transferred to NZ Engineers 27th reinforcement.

    28 December 1917, Berty sailed for France arriving at the Etaples camp on 31 December 1917 where he spent several weeks before being posted to 2nd Field Company NZ Engineers on 19 January 1918

    Army record shows incorrect date of birth as 1888, relatives note he was born in 1889. Age incorrectly cited on CWGC and headstone, age 28 should be 30 years AWMM
