  • Ralph Arundel was born at Frasertown. He was the son of Alice and George Arundel. Served on the Western Front, 1917-18.

    Embarked Wellington, 11 October 916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 20 December 1916, and marched in to Sling Camp.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 11 February 1917; joined 1st Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 26 May 1917.
    Appointed Lance Corporal, 15 October 1917; detached to School of Instruction, 30 October 1917.
    Detached to Brigade School, 10 November 1917; rejoined unit from detachment, 16 November1917.
    Admitted to 7th General Hospital, St Omer, 10 January 1918 (mumps, mild); discharged to Base Depot, 29 January 1918.
    Transferred to 2nd Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, 22 February 1918.

    Wounded in action, 13 September 1918 (gun shot wound, right hand); admitted to Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 14 September 1918; transferred to England, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 19 September 1918.
    Commenced return to New Zealand on board HT 'Ruahine', 8 December 1918.
    Died of double pneumonia, Wairoa Hospital, 20 November 1919. AWMM
