  • Clive Fail was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Fail, of Beach Rd., Hastings, New Zealand.

    New Zealand at the Front ( a magazine written and published and illustrated in France by men of the New Zealand Division) 1917 issue, page141.

    Embarked Wellington, 29 May 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 27 July 1916; marched in to Sling Camp, 28 July 1916, and posted to Wellington Company, and reverted to the ranks.
    Appointed Temporary Sergeant, 29 July 1916.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 11 August 1916; marched in to Base Depot, Etaples, 13 August 1916.
    Posted to strength, No 3 Company, NZ Machine Gun Corps, in the field, 4 October 1916.
    Relinquished appointment of Temporary Sergeant, 4 October 1916.
    Appointed Lance Corporal, 18 March 1917.
    Relinquished appointment as Lance Corporal, 7 April 1917.
    Killed in action, 7 June 1917. AWMM
