    • Son of Jessie Inglis and John Inglis.

      Brothers Walter James Inglis (6/1321) and William John Inglis (17789) served in WW1. AWMM
    • Walter (6/1321 ) enlisted on 3 October 1914 at Hokitika and joined the Canterbury Infantry Regiment. He embarked for the Dardanelles on 12 April 1915 from Egypt. On 30 May 1915 he was admitted on to the Sweeper Claiton and transferred to Franconid with gastroenteritis. On 8 June 1915 he was admitted to the 1st Australian General Hospital at Heliopolis before being transferred to the Convalescent Hospital at Helouan. A medical report showed that he had suffered three episodes of sub acute rheumatism since 1912 where he was bedridden for up to three months at the longest.

      On 7 August 1915 he was discharged permanently unfit after operations in Gallipoli. and travelled back to New Zealand on the SS Tahiti. On 10 November 1916 he was declared medically fit for service by the medical board at Greymouth. On 16 February 1917 he embarked from Wellington as part of the Otago Infantry Regiment.

      On 2 May 1917 he marched into Sling Camp, France. On 25 June 1917 he was posted in the field in France. On 30 October 1917 he was admitted to the NZ Stationary Hospital at Wisques, France with influenza. He rejoined his unit 1st Battalion Otago Infantry Regiment in the field on 26 November 1917. On 24 December 1917 he was admitted to the NZ Field Ambulance and rejoined his unit on 2 January 1918. On 27 December 1918 he was admitted to hospital with influenza and was later returned to New Zealand on the SS Hororata on 1 February 1919.
