    Left New Zealand in 1914 as 2nd Lieutenant was with the New Zealand Howitzer Battery at the Gallipoli landing, invalided to Egypt, landed in France with the first New Zealand Howitzers and was with them at Ypres, Messines, The Somme etc. Received the Military Cross for his work at Passchendaele and on the signing of the Armistice was sent to Coblenz with the Army of Occupation.
