  • My great uncle. He was standing beside his brother George in the trenches on the Somme. George turned away for whatever reason and when he turned back Ernest was gone. He was listed as missing in action and is remembered at the NZ Memorial in Caterpillar Valley. Also remembered on the War Memorial at Eketahuna NZ. I never knew you but your memory was kept alive by your sister, Edith, my Nana, who talked of you to us. Thank you.
