  • Son of Walter Tilden Laurence and Flora Eugeniea Laurence (nee Olsen).

    Married twice. Husband of Elsie May Laurence (nee Yelland), father of Stanley, and four other children. Husband of Dorothy Joan Laurence (nee McAsey) and father of several children. Father of Thomas Arnold Laurence (37568) who also served in WW2.

    Wounded in action with Wellington Infantry Battalion at Chunuk Bair, August 8th 1915.

    Evacuated to Hamrun Hospital, Malta, arriving 13th August 1915.

    Left Malta on troopship 'Galatea' bound for Portsmouth August 25th 1915. Sent to Grey Towers, Hornchurch, Essex, England September 11th 1915 for further treatment.

    Shipped back to Egypt in March 1916 where he rejoined battalion at Ismalia.

    Sent to France with Battalion May 1916.

    Wounded in action 11 August 1916. Sent to NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, England, then transferred back to Grey Towers, Hornchurch, on 22nd August 1916.

    Sent to Torquay, Devon for recuperation. Stationed at NZ Discharge Unit, Hampton House, Torquay where met he Miss Elsie May Yelland. They were married September 20th 1917.

    Returned to NZ on the 'Arawa' in May of 1919 with his wife and baby son named Stanley.

    Served WW2 6 January 1941 to 6 April 1941 in New Zealand; 7 April 1941 to 9 June 1943 overseas and 10 June 1943 to 10 July 1943 in New Zealand. AWMM
