  • Eric Astley was the son of John Edward and Katrina Elizabeth Astley, of Hobson St., Auckland.

    Enlisted in London, October 1914 with the British Section of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Transferred 28 December 1914 to New Zealand Engineers.

    His uncle, Malcolm Astley (4/3A), also served in World War 1.

    Attended Auckland Grammar School.

    Attended Auckland University College (now the University of Auckland).
