  • Prior to war service Francis McCabe was employed as an Accountant - by G.M Rout & Co - at Nelson.
    Served Egypt (1914-1915) & Gallipoli (1915).
    Medically evacuated (sick) from Gallipoli - on 4 August 1915 - firstly to Malta and then to Cheltenham Hospital, England.
    Invalided home to New Zealand - aboard SS 'Ruahine' - on 17 November 1915. Discharged from the NZEF - on 10 February 1916 - as no longer physically fit for further war service.
