Thomas Adams was the son of Thomas and Isabella Adams of Belfast, Canterbury.

26 July boarded the 'Ivernia' at Alexandria bound for France where he joined the 2 Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, which was preparing for fighting on the Somme.

"Thomas Adams survived the Somme battle but was injured on 2 January 1917 whilst on the Lys, near Armentieres. He was wounded the day after the 2 Canterbury Battalion returned to the line, receiving gunshot wounds to his left thigh. It was necessary for his left leg to be amputated." (Church, p.140)

He was admitted to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst on 1 February, his injuries proved to be fatal. AWMM
