  • Medals Reunited NZ was passed the Dog Tag of 11/313 Pte GH McDermid, WMR, MGS, in order to research and find a possible family link to return the item to. The Dog Tag had been found in the personal possessions of the first contributors deceased father, also a WW1 serviceman, possibly from the same unit? The Dog Tag of Pte McDermid appears to be a 10 Qirsh Egyptian coin that has had one side ground off and the following military details stamped/engraved onto the coin - NZ FORCES 11/313 P GH McDERM-ID WMR . M.G.S. (P = Pte or Private, and M.G.S. = Machine Gun Section) The tag has a 36 cm knotted loop of brown parcel string attached through which were threaded 3 x small (approx 1 cm) glass-like rings or beads - 2 x amber material and 1 x bluish-turquoise (could possibly be of Bronze Age origin ?)   • I am in possession of GH McDermids. ID Tag complete with rosary beads. My grandfather who was also in the Wellington Mounted Rifles in Egypt brought it home with him. I would like to give the ID tag back to the family.
