    He died a week before he was to be married.

    He is commemorated on the bell Hebuterne (donated by his father, James McHardie) for the National War Memorial Carillon, Wellington. Brothers Clarence McHardie, Raymond Shirley McHardie and Cyril James McHardie are commemorated on the same bell. AWMM
