London Gazette 28 January 1918, p1405, Rec No 1598 Action in front Belle Vue Spur, west of Passchendaele, on October 12th 1917 and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Staff Sergeant McLennan was in charge of all Medical Stores and rations in the forward area. By his untiring devotion to duty and often under artillery fire he kept the forward posts completely supplied with all necessaries for wounded men. He worked continuously night and day from October 12th to October 15th 1917, and it was due to his untiring energy and devotion to duty that the bearer squads were kept supplied with equipment. He worked magnificently and was an example to all of untiring energy. Bar M.M. Staff-Sergeant, No 2 Field Ambulance, New Zealand Medical Corps London Gazette, Rec No 3133 Operations between October 23rd and November 7th 1918 in front of Beaudignies and Le Quesnoy. For gallantry and devotion to duty on November 4th 1918. This NCO was in charge of the forward bearer post near Le Quesnoy. The post was subjected to heavy shell fire both high explosive and gas. In spite of this and although slightly gassed himself this NCO continued doing his duty evacuating the wounded that were coming in. Later on when some wounded that were lying out under sniper fire from the ramparts of Le Quesnoy he organised a squad and brought these men into safety. His continued devotion to duty and coolness under fire was a fine example to the other men and helped greatly in the rapid evacuation of wounded. He worked forty eight hours without rest till the regimental aid posts clear. AWMM
