  • Obituary
Mr James Forbes, of Rangi street, has received advice that his son, Sergeant W. R. Forbes, died of wounds on April 4 at the St. John Ambulance Brigade Hospital, Etapies. Another message states that deceased received a gun-shot wound in the head on April 1. Sergeant Forbes, who was 25 years of age, had been over two years at the war. Prior to enlistment he was engaged in station work in the Waimata Vallev, and was well-known to many in the district. He had recently been recommended for a commission and was to have gone into training to qualify for a lieutenancy. A brother, Edward Forbes, was killed earlier in the war, and another brother is on active service.
