  • Wm A Mills was promoted to sergeant on 25/4/15. He was wounded and rescued from the 'Daisy Patch', on 8th May 1915, which must have been an act of remarkable heroism on the part of the rescuers. Sydney Revington Jones, his rescuer, was killed in action a few weeks later in France, 29/7/15. William (Billy) Mills married my grandmother, Catherine Sophia Alice Ellis, had 4 children, Margaret (my mother), Bill, (who served in WW2), Tom and Joan. He died at the age of 35 in Auckland of influenza, pneumonia, 1 month history of acute rheumatism and heart failure. Their address was Dorset Street, Grey Lynn, Auckland.
