      London Gazette 16 August 1917, p8395, Rec No 790 For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. Although very severely wounded in the hand and suffering great pain, he successfully led two platoons to their objective, and remained in command for eleven hours, when he was compelled to retire owing to the pain of his wound. He set a splendid example of courage and a devotion to duty under continual heavy shellfire. AWMM
