  • Son of Mr and Mrs George Nelson, of Nen Street, Oamaru.

Enlisted twice. He was dishonourably discharged for misconduct on 1 Apr 1915. He re-enlisted on 1 Apr 1916 as a rifleman, Serial No. 18695 using false details in which he stated he was born in Ireland. In fact he was born in Oamaru, Otago (Birth Certificate sighted in May 2015). Military Personnel file (1914) listed his date of birth as 17 August 1882. While his date of birth in his 1916 enlistment is stated as the 17 August 1873.

He was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium 12 Oct 1917. AWMM
