      London Gazette 16 August 1917, p8430, Rec No 872 Messines Offensive - 7th to 9th June 1917. For gallant conduct and devotion to duty. He did conspicuous good work in charge of Lewis Gun. While tackling an enemy machine gun his gun jammed. He repaired the gun under heavy fire and during the whole operation did admirable work for his splendid handling of his gun. His work has been consistenly good since his arrival in France in April 1916 and his high example he has set has gained for him the full confidence of the men under him. AWMM
