For splendid work at La Vacquerie, when a company had lost its direction in the dark he went forward to ascertain their position. He reconnoitred across the front of another battalion for four hours under heavy fire reaching a point well in front of their forward post, where he remained under fire three hours, gaining valuable information as to the enemy's dispositions. He has shown great gallantry and initiative and has carried out many valuable reconnaissances. London Gazette. AWMM
