  • Sydney Francis Postlewaight was my grandfather, the kindest most caring man in my life. Thankyou for you service and for being part of my life. Ann
    Public - Susan Ann - Direct descendant - 25 April 2020
  • Sydney Francis Postlewaight was a sergeant major in WW1. He blew his bugle everyday at dawn and again in the evening. He used a nail and hammer to tap onto his bugle the name of the places that they went to. He survived a bullet to his shoulder, the effects of being gassed and survived Gallipoli. He was also in the army during WW2 and in later years spent many hours in voluntary work for St John. To recognise his service to St John, Sydney Postlewaight was awarded the Order of St Johns. He died in 1972. My grandfather was the best, kindest grandfather ever.
    Public - Raewyn - Other Relative - 10 May 2015
  • The military issue bugle that Sgt Sydney Francis Postlewaight took away to war and played at Gallipoli is on display at the Auckland Army Centre. This bugle is being taken back to Gallipoli for the 100 year celebrations and will be played on the 25th April 2015 at Anzac Cove
    Public - Blake William - 12 March 2015
