  • Sydney Francis Postlewaight was my grandfather, the kindest most caring man in my life. Thankyou for you service and for being part of my life. Ann

    Report
  • Sydney Francis Postlewaight was a sergeant major in WW1. He blew his bugle everyday at dawn and again in the evening. He used a nail and hammer to tap onto his bugle the name of the places that they went to. He survived a bullet to his shoulder, the effects of being gassed and survived Gallipoli. He was also in the army during WW2 and in later years spent many hours in voluntary work for St John. To recognise his service to St John, Sydney Postlewaight was awarded the Order of St Johns. He died in 1972. My grandfather was the best, kindest grandfather ever.
