  • "After a month in Egypt Geoffrey embarked on the 'Ivernia' at Alexandria. On arrival in Southampton, England he was then posted to 'C' Company and based at Sling Camp. Here he undertook a signallers course and passed the examination being graded a 1 Class Signaller." (Church, p.144)

    Geoffrey left for France on 7 January 1917 with the 5 Reserves Battalion, 3 New Zealand Rifle Brigade, a month later he joined the 3 Battalion and was posted to 'A' Company.

    In June he fell sick suffering from acute lymphatic leukaemia and immediately transferred to England and No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst. He died at the end of the month.(Church, p.144) AWMM
