  • Lionel Baddeley was the son of Richard and Jane Baddeley, of Kakatahi.

    "Left New Zealand with the Main Body in October, 1914, attached to the 2nd Squadron Queen Alexandra's Own, and was killed on May 20th, 1915, only eight days after landing at Anzac Cove. He came here in 1903, and represented the school as a member of the XV in the following year. After leaving he farmed in the Hawera district with another old Boy, and later undertook the management of his father's property at Kakatahi. He was one of the very first to enlist in the district."
