  • He was the son of William Bartlett & Jane STEVENS (nee McLeod) from King Edward Avenue, Auckland. They had nine children – John (b1872), George Edward (b1872), Alexandrina Annie (b1873), William Henry (b1875), Ellsworth (b1877), Hugh Bartlett (b1879), Oswald (b1883), Francis John (b1886) and Maud Lillian (b1888). The four youngest sons enlisted – Ellsworth (41902), Hugh Bartlett (8/980), Oswald (4/1589) and Francis John (12/1044).
