    Returned to 3rd Reserve Bn, Sling Camp, 31 July 1916.
    Appointed Temporary Sergeant, 26 July 1916.
    Proceeded overseas to france, 5 September 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 22 November 1916.
    Found guilty, 9 January 1917, of (1) while on the march breaking ranks without permission; (2) non-compliance with an order in that after rejoining the ranks he again left the same: awarded 21 days' Field Punishment No 2.
    Detached to 2nd Field Company Engineers, NZEF, 31 May 1917; rejoined 2nd Bn, AIR, 28 June 1917.
    Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 5 November 1917 (pleurisy); transferred same day to NZ Stationary Hospital, Wisques; to 8th Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 16 November 1917; to England, 20 November 1917, and admitted to Southwark Military Hospital same day (debility); transferred to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst (date illegible); to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 23 January 1918.
    Discharged to duty at NZ Convalescent Hospital, 20 March 1918.
    Discharged to Headquarters, London, 10 July 1918, and detailed On Command, NZ Pay Office.
    Transferred to NZ Pay Corps, 15 September 1918.
