  • Reginald Swanwick was the second born to Doctor Eustace Maclean and Edith (nee Dodds) Swanwick born at West Hartlepool on 21st March 1881. He was one of 6 children. Eustace Hilton born 2nd August 1879, then Reginald, Margaret born 22nd December 1882, Geofrey born 2nd November 1884, Lionel Temple born 4th August 1886 and Anne born 27th February 1888. The Swanwick children where all baptised in Christ Church, Church Square, West Hartlepool and they lived with their parents in 'The Whitehouse' Church Square, West Hartlepool. The building erected in 1867 still stands and is currently in commercial use. Reginald's father, Doctor Eustace Maclean Swanwick was responsible for bringing into the world the well known Scottish born author Sir Compton Mackenzie, ( Whisky Galore) probably his best known work.
