  • I am Warrant Officer Class 1 Tamaterangi Andrew. I am currently serving with the NZ Army. Through my Grandfather 802185 LCpl Te Tuhera Ruawai 28 (Māori) Battalion I am a great grand nephew of 16/874 Private Te Whanoke Te Are. Pte Te Are my great grand uncle is my grandfathers uncle. My grandfathers mother Haromi and Te Whanoke are brother and sister from Ruataahuna.
I currently own Te Whanokes original medals and wear them proudly when attending military commemorations abroad and at home. I believe Te Whanoke fought on the Western Front at Armienteres and Somme. I dont believe he fought at Gallipoli as first thought.
