    "Not many days had passed before an Expeditionary Force was in course of preparation in New Zealand, and one of the first to offer his services was my chief reporter, Jack Grant. It was with sadness that I parted with him, for he was keen as mustard and as loyal as could be. He went with the Rifle Brigade to Gallipoli, and the last that was seen of poor Jack was when he was endeavouring to bandage a leg that had been shattered by a shell.       He is remembered on the Laggan War Memorial which stands in a field east of Laggan, on the A86, next to the Gaskmore House Hotel, Laggan. It takes the form of a square pillar, made of stone blocks, in the shape of a small tower with battlement top and 4 cannon-like barrels protruding, one on each corner, the whole stands on a two-stepped base. Carved on the front face is a crest with motto below and the dates 1914-1919.
