Mr. Basil Keith White - One of the most efficient and popular figures in New Zealand banking circles, Mr. Basil Keith White, passed away in a Whangarei private hospital today. Son of Mr. & Mrs. David White, deceased was born in December, 1890, and spent his boyhood at Whangarei Heads, where he was educated. At the age of 16, he joined the staff of the Bank of Australasia in Whangarei, under the managership of the late Mr. McCormack. From Whangarei he was transferred to the Auckland office, later going to Motu, in the Gisborne district. While stationed there he enlisted for service in the Great War, and went overseas with the Mounted Rifles in the 7th Reinforcements. He remained overseas until Armistice Day, being paymaster for some time. On his return to New Zealand, he resumed his position with the bank at Auckland, later being transferred to Gisborne and then becoming accountant at head office, Wellington. He was in turn appointed manager at Blenheim and Hawera, retiring from the last position some 18 months ago on account of ill-health. He was familiarly known throughout banking circles as “B.K.” Since his retirement he had resided with his sister, Mrs. S. Going, 11 Mill Road. He was survived by one sister, Mrs. S. Going, and four brothers. Messrs. D. S. White, Devonport; John White, Ngararatunua; Murdoch White, Auckland, and Ambrose White. Auckland. He lost two brothers, Kenneth and Alex, in the last war. Deceased was a great sportsman and was one of the founders of the Whangarei Golf Club. He was also prominent in Rotarian circles and a loyal member of the Presbyterian Church.
