  • Son of Sarah Ann and Frederick Brougham Green, of Carra Lynn, Bulls, Rangitikei

On 8th January 1916 Albert sailed from New Zealand, disembarking at the Suez on 8th February 1916. In March 1916 he transferred to the 2nd Battalion of the Wellington Infantry Regiment and thereafter sailed for France on 9th April 1916 from Alexandria. Unfortunately for Albert it was a very short war as on the 16th June 1916 he was seriously wounded (gun shot wounds to the buttocks) at Armentieres.

Albert Green was wounded in a raid on an enemy trench on the night of the 16th June 1916. The raiding party under Captain Alley got into the enemy lines but were caught with shell fire going in and lost two officers killed and 10 men wounded - Albert was one of these 10 men. Alley himself was wounded and died in the same action.

Albert spent time in a hospital in Boulogne, France before being transferred to a hospital in Brighton, England, where he subsequently died on the 14th July 1916. AWMM
