  • Son of Robert William and Elizabeth Emily Green, of Wanganui.

"Left school in 1913, and entered the local office of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company. He enlisted in June, 1917, and sailed in the following October with the 30th Reinforcements, being killed at Neuville on September 6th, 1918. On arrival in England he was posted to the Canterbury Regiment. Battalion headquarters were moving forward to a new locality at the time of his death, and just as they arrived, a shell landed beside them, doing its deadly work in an instant. He was never strong, and at that particular time had been given light work, but his Major spoke of him as one who always did his duty cheerfully, earning thereby the good opinion of his officers and brothers in arms. He was buried where he fell, close to a French civilian cemetery." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School]) AWMM
