    Joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, 7 March 1916, and posted to 10th Company.
    Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 9 April 1916.
    Wounded in action, 15 September 1916 (gun shot wound, left thigh); admitted to 1/3 Northumbrian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 45th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to No 2 Canadian General Hospital; to England, 21 September 1916, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham, 22 September 1918; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 21 October 1916; discharged to NZ Convalescent Depot, Codford, 30 October 1916; attached to 3rd Reserve Bn, Sling Camp, 20 December 1916.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 11 February 1917; marched in to NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 13 February 1917.
    Admitted to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 23 April 1917 (impetigo); transferred to 25th General Hospital, Hurdelot, 23 April 1917 (eczema); to No 7 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 29 May 1917; to NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 10 June 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 25 June 1917.
    Wounded in action (second occasion), 4 August 1917 (gun shot wound, face), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to No 7 Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 5 August 1917; to England, 4 September 1917, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames.
    Classified 'unfit' by Medical Board, 5 October 1917, and placed on NZ Roll.
    Transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 9 October 1917; to Discharge Depot, Torquay, 18 October 1917.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Plymouth on board HMNZT 'Arawa', 10 January 1918; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of wounds received in action), 3 April 1918.
