    Proceeded overseas to France, 14 August 1916; joined No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, in the field, 21 September 1916.

    Wounded in action, and admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 22 September 1916 (gun shot wound, arm and foot); transferred to No 1 Australian General Hospital, 29 September 1916, and then to England same day; admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham, 30 September 1916; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 25 November 1916.

    Classifed by NZ Medical Board and placed on NZ Roll, 17 January 1917.

    Transferred to No 1 NZ General hospital, Brockenhurst, 3 February 1917; to Roehampton Hospital, 2 April 1917; to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 3 May 1917; discharged to sick leave, 5 May 1917; admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 21 May 1917; discharged to sick leave, 6 July 1917; admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital from leave, 27 October 1917.

    Found guilty, 8 January 1918, of overstaying leave: forfeited 5 days' pay under Royal Warrant, and 5 days' pay by award of Commanding Officer.
    Discharged from No 2 NZ General Hospital to Discharge Depot, Torquay, 25 March 1918.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Plymouth on board HMNZT 'Mokoia', 30 May 1918; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of wounds received in action), 21 February 1919.
    War service: 3 years 284 days (of which 3 years 35 days were abroad)

    Cause of death: oedema of lungs, idiopathic oedema.
