MR. GEORGE BROWN - Returned men will hear with regret of the demise of their comrade Mr George Brown, late of Crawford Road, Kaiti, who passed away yesterday at Cook hospital. The late Mr Brown was a member of an early reinforcement of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and was returned to New Zealand suffering from the effects of a gunshot wound, a bullet having lodged in his chest. His wound resulted in a degree of permanent disability, which periodically became more acute, and repeatedly brought him under medical treatment, his case being typical of a large number affecting veterans of the war. Recently he became more seriously troubled, and he entered the hospital a few days ago, his condition rapidly becoming critical. He is survived by Mrs Brown, a daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Hadwin, of Mangapapa, and four children, the eldest of whom is aged 11 years; to them in their bereavement much sympathy will be extended. (POVERTY BAY HERALD, 1 AUG 1929)
