  • The Maungakaramea community remembers your relation at the ANZAC day service held each year. A cross for William is placed in front of our monument along with 14 others. His name is read out and a local child places a flower on his cross. This year we have a descendent of his, a little girl names Maia Courtman who will lay the flower for William.

  • Today it is 100 years since the battle of Gallipoli, and we are remembering the soldiers like you who died for your country. You enlisted not long after Gallipoli, and though we know so little about you, you must have gone through so much before you died in your early 30s in a foreign land, doing your duty. In your final letter home, you were stoic, funny, protective of your younger brother and in love. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember you.
